Fortissimo Music Publications was set up in 2011 to make it possible to produce new editions of music on a commercial basis.  Its principal aim both then and now is to make available again, great and musically worthwhile works that have gone out of print or have been made impossible to obtain through a normal shop.  As almost everyone in the music world is aware, the music industry has changed dramatically in the last 30 years.  Many publishers, large and small, have gone out of business and a significant number of professional music shops worldwide have closed forever. Publishers back catalogues have often disappeared into unknown warehouses and the specialist staff who used to run publisher archives have retired and not been replaced.

From the outset, it was decided not to simply reproduce public domain items as these are often riddled with errors, but to produce new and corrected editions. There are a few areas of specialism; namely unjustly neglected British music from the first part of the twentieth century, neglected or suppressed European music that should be available for purchase and performance and when possible, first publications of new works. Recently, Ukrainian music has been added to this specialism list in an attempt to both preserve Ukrainian musical heritage and make some long deleted pieces available again worldwide.
